Second and Fifth Grade Gifted Services Screening

As part of the Plan for the Gifted for Newport News Public Schools, second and fifth grade students will be administered the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT) during the testing window of October 2-27, 2017.  This aptitude test is a measure of general ability that requires the student to use reasoning and problem-solving skills.  This year the NNAT will be administered online in a computer lab at your child's school.  The NNAT is a completely nonverbal test administered in a group format during a thirty-minute period.  The NNAT test will help us determine if your child needs to be screened to receive gifted services for the 2018-2019 school year.

Students who qualify to continue with the gifted screening process will take an achievement test administered at a later date.  In November 2017, you will receive information regarding your child’s October NNAT test.  If the results indicate your child qualifies for further screening, information concerning the achievement testing will be mailed to you directly.  Should your address change, please contact your child’s school to update the records.
